Have you found a place to buy it in bulk? I used to get a 20lb bale for about $15 and I know you can still find it for that but I forgot the name of the distributor. I used the stuff exclusively in when I lived in TX but then when I moved to CA it was tough to find. I'm hoping to find an outlet here in GA. Petsmart can get it in bulk but they don't retail it. I, too, really like the aspen bedding for many different reptiles.
Also, Dan, do you provide a nesting box with a different substrate? Quote:

Not all aspen bedding is the same. The stuff petco or petsmart sells looks just like pine chips. The shredded stuff like t-rex sells is the stuff you want to use.

Yes that is Bed-A-Beast. It comes in bricks that you add hot water to and it then expands. Of course you will want to do that in a clean bucket...lol. Expands quite a lot. Then add about 50% more sand. The common sand you can get at Menards, Lowe's, whatever store like that you have. Comes in a bag. Can't remember the weight, 25 lbs maybe? It's only a couple of dollars. It helps hold the moisture in the bed-a-beast.

Hi Ed,
I just picked up a bag at a local petshop. I paid $30. for a 35 pound bag. Here's the company http://www.teklad.com/bedding/aspen.asp My bag is 15.9kg not the 3kg that they list. Danny

So, if I am understanding right, and by the pic's I saw in the indoor enclosure thread--you want to wet the sand down so it isn't in there just "dry"...?
If we do the bed a beast--and it's wet, is that enough to keep the sand moist enough? Or is moist a bad way to describe it? I thought they wanted "dry" as opposed to "wet"??? Sorry if this sounds confusing, but I guess I am... |

Oh, and if you use the Aspen bedding, does the sand mixed in then need to be "pre-wetted"???

If you go with Aspen bedding, you won't be mixing anything in with it. You use it alone and not wet at all.
You do want the 50/50 mix dry on top. It's fine to have some humidity with the lower layers damp. But you don't want her sitting on any damp mix, as that can cause shell rot. Danny
