Energy saving bulbs
At one time shops like Asda were selling those long life energy saving bulbs for as little as 50p each, I bought about 10 at once at 50p each. Nobody wanted those bulbs because the other type of 'normal' bulbs were still available. Now that normal bulbs are no longer available those same long life bulbs are £3.99 each and upwards.

No one wanted the energy saving bulbs because they looked rubbish in a stylish lamp shade.Talking of energy saving, the "new" ceiling lights now being sold nationwide have multiple halogen bulbs fitted, often they have 4 to 7 bulbs from 25 to 50 watts each, saving energy just went out the window!

I'm really fed up with energy saving bulbs as you seem to need more to see anything!

The new LED bulbs save a lot more electricity and the light from them is clear and 'white' which makes them seem brighter to the eye.
These are not cheap but prices will come down. My guess is that LED is the future for most lighting applications. But they don't produce any heat.

we have LED street lights in one street which produce a white light but the poles are covered in boxes and wires. They don't give off as much light as the old orange ones but maybe they need more bulbs on them to match that

I love those old fashioned looking bulbs, quite expensive though. look like they've come out of a Frankenstein movie. CB
