Hello Nikki!! If they turn out to be male and female they will have to be kept seperately. Im sure someone told me that the babies could have problems if the parents are related. Hopefully they will both be of the same sex Joanne xx

If they do mate & lay eggs, just throw the eggs away!

Sibling mating probably occur in the wild its not something to encourage but a first sibling mating would not do any harm to the offspring produced at all, but offspring from a sibling pairing would best be sold/rehomed seperately.

Female and male tortoises are generally receptive to mating at all times but males shouldnt be allowed access to single females or females housed in small areas 24/7 as they will pester females constantly causing stress and limb damage from excessive biting

ill try my best to answer
whilst we wait for someone with more knowledge to come along
but i do not have 1st hand experience with breeding

i believe once the male starts showing sexual behaviour towards the female
it stimulates the female to ovulate
i think they can in theory breed at anytime of the year
a gravid female will put on weight
may seek more food
may seek more calcium
a female that wants to lay will start pacing around searching for a good place to dig and lay
xrays would show the eggs
females who have not mated can lay infertile eggs

hi i have the same problem . i recently adopted what i was told was 2 boys hermanns both hatched 2006, now i find out i got a boy n girl from the same batch of hatchlings hence brother n sister, the male is much larger and am getting worried that they will breed and it will cause i problem... are you saying that this is ok piglet pls just that any successful hatchlings will need to be sold individually ? and when you say a first sibling mating, you mean as in relation or as in first time ? sorry to sound dumb, but i dont want to have to destroy the eggs or anything , would break my heart, would rather seperate them
Thanks
Michelle
