Please could you check my eggs
Hi
I've been lurking in the background for a while now but haven't needed to post before as I've had all my many questions answered by searching the forums so before I do anything else, I must say thank you to all the regular posters for the help and advice you have unknowingly given me. I have 2 wonderful horsfield tortoises, Dave and Angie Just over 3 weeks ago Angie surprised us by laying 2 eggs! I managed to put together a 'home made' incubator and put the eggs in there. Then, 2 weeks later, she layed us another 3 eggs! I think this is a bit unusual but not unheard of....... All the eggs are incubating at 31 degrees with 65 - 75% humidity. I've tried candeling the eggs but I don't really know what I'm looking for. I think that maybe the first 2 eggs laid 24 days ago are not fertile, they look to be empty but I'm not sure about the other 3 which were laid 10 days ago...... I don't think I am allowed to post pictures on here yet as I'm newly registered - or at least, I can't figure out how to do it so I have uploaded the photos to my Flickr account. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mandy-n...7625440151033/ I would really appreciate some opinions as to whether or not any of the eggs are fertile. I would be over the moon if even if we only manage to hatch one. Last edited by *Mandy*; 09-12-2010 at 11:49 PM. |

Pictures 8 through 11 are of fertile eggs. It's hard to tell on your other pictures, but if any of the other eggs look like these. Than they are most likely fertile

Oh WOW!!!
Thank you for checking them out. Pictures 8 through to 11 are 2 of the second batch of eggs that she laid. The third egg from the second batch does look very similar to these - I'm just hopeless at taking photos. I'm so excited now!! Should I remove the first 2 unfertile eggs she laid from the incubator? I have read that if they're not going to hatch, they can turn bad and explode. |

Thank you all for the good wishes! I will keep you posted. Hopefully in the new year I will be able to start a new thread with the title "Help one of my babies is hatching!"

If the first eggs are infertile, it won't hurt to leave them for 70 days just incase they might be fertile.

Thank you Danny I will leave the first 2 eggs in there just in case but they do look very different to the other 3 eggs.
Darren - "eggciting" lol..... I'm definitely very 'eggcited' - these are both Angie's and my first ever eggs. It will be lovely if one or more of them eventually hatch - fingers crossed |
