I've just received some Opuntias from Easy Cactus - with instructions on how to feed to tortoises. The Subulata isn't one of the ones they say is fed to tortoises, but I don't know if that means they definitely can't be.

Microdsys (spelling!) is one they definately can eat but be careful, I know a lot of keepers stear clear of this one simply because of the amount of spikes they are dreadful to try & handle. I took to using some old kitchen tongs.
