New tortoise introductions
Having had George for a little while now decided he would benefit from a friend so got one of his clutch mates. ( when I say he - he may be she)
Introduced them yesterday and George has been nipping Fred on his legs, head etc. Fred then retreats to his shell. I am assuming this is normal hierarchy and introduction activity? Just a bit concerned in case it means Fred doesn't settle in so well (again Fred is unsexed) they are Hermanns and 4yo |

Put some photos in the i.d/sexing thread so you can get an idea what sex they are. xx
I've got one that nips the other ones legs but he doesn't bite his head etc. What species of tortoise are they? xxx

I'm sure they'll sort it out but just keep an eye on Fred to make sure he doesn't get too stressed. It will have been a shock for Fred to change his environment which won't help his stress levels. Just make sure that he is getting his share of food, there are plenty of places he can retreat to if he wants to...objects breaking the line of vision etc and that he stays dried nosed and bushy tailed

Well having left the house and still it was happening I was dreading what I would come home to. But after 5 hours out I came home to George asleep in his hide and Fred sat in the middle of the water tray but apparently okay. He seems to like it in the water.
Checked him over and no cuts so had him out for a while and fed him some food. So I'm sure it will sort itself out. |

That sounds pretty positive- I'm pretty certain that if Fred was really stressed he would be hiding away. Fingers crosed it goes well from now on in
