gosh i wish it was one day, the previous owner didnt know they was ment to have uv light at all! The way he described it to me was at christmas when they went to the vet the vet told them the shells where soft so to get a UV light.... the light i got with them was just a heat lamp!? so im guessing they are 2 and Saturday was the first time they had ever been under uv?! I have an appointment with my vet on Thursday for an MOT

Were they getting any supplement such as Nutrobal from the previous owner? This contains vitamin D3 (which is basically what the tortoise gains from UV lights and sunlight) and so a supplement would have gone some way to supplying their D3 needs? The D3 is used by the tortoise to uptake calcium into the body. You are doing the best thing possible in this respect by getting the tortoises outside, even on cloudy days there is plenty of UV around.
