how do you build a table?
hi everyone,
i hope some one can give me some pointers, im looking to upgrade my table as my two have outgrown there last, but as im off sick from work and im getting next to nothing in pay, so i have to do it very very cheaply, i've looked around locally (in friday-ad and gumtree etc for bookcases and wardrobes) and it doesn't seem like anything cheaps about i could use so im thinking im going to have to build one i have no clue what im doing, I've heard B&Q can cut the wood for me so hopefully only coasting about £30-£40, i would look at making it 51"x36" to fit in a space, how do i go about putting it together and i want to add a shelf for them to go up about 15" long, does that have to be a bit smaller than the base to fit from side to side? sounds silly but do i just screw it together? I've not ever made anything from scratch so this is all foreign to me? but it seems roughly the size i want i can't buy cheap so am at a loss and have to try building I'll have to get it right first time tho so not a lot of pressure lol! |

I started mine from some tables from ikea. And secured kitchen kickboards to the sides with glue (mitre mate)

Nice...the table above xx watch the surface under the basking light though as that could get red hot. IMO..leave as soil. xx

They'll also try and climb anything against the sides to try and get over the outer wall.
This could be a hazard as they may end up on their backs. I.e - the plants in the pots. Just a wee thought to consider. xx Last edited by yuna1971; 06-04-2013 at 08:35 PM. |

The surface is some timber with reptile carpet over the top. Its been set up a while now and the temps appear ok. But I'll keep an eye on it, thanks.

that's the best way. If you notice say that there's climbing round the sides especially round the basking area then you can just tweak a few things. Nice job though. I do like the set up you have xx

Do consider removing the slate under the basking light though. I only say this as it will get red hot on there and there will be a risk of it being too hot on them. xx

I built mine with 2 tables from Ikea and some bed slats. That was the main bulk of it, plus a couple of strips of extra wood from B+Q. The tables and slats from Ikea came to £50 and my table can be seen here: http://www.shelledwarriors.co.uk/for...ad.php?t=68059
