The one protozoa that I'm concerned about is any kind of ameoba and they are very difficult to both detect and treat but I found that the precautionary treatment is sometimes warranted.
Flagellets, another type of protozoa is easier to detect at 400x magnification by appearing as a transparant or translucent 'whirly bug' (type of water bug)(for lack of a better description) This is a fascinating field which can drive you nuts if you are not careful. If you do get a microscope do many fecals on as many tortoises as you can so you have an idea what 'normal' is. You also have to learn what is a parasite and what is other stuff like bug parts and plant material which the tortoise might ingest. It has just been brought to my attention by a friend that a fantastic (inexpensive) book has been redone which is now available. This is a must for anyone interested in delving into this topic. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Understandin...705061-8980632 Quote:
