Smuggled tortoises
Proves it still goes on, someone thinking they are giving a better life to Tunisian tortoises by bringing them back from holiday. Read the article on the link below

thats a bit mean to rehome them to someone else! if the lady concerned could offer them a good home why couldn't she have them back, she owned up etc and sounds like she wanted to keep them so why take them away only to give them to someone else.

If they left them with the original owner, lots of people could bring torts in illegally, then phone own up to what they had done and keep the tortoises.
Thats not going to deter people from bringing in the tortoises, if they take them away its a deterrent. |

These situations are unfortunate, but as Carl said if they are not removed then there isn't a deterrent, therefore the same people may think oh I'll go and get some more, then it begins to escalate.
These 2 were rehomed via the TT and are now in an excellent home.

At least in this country they don't do what a lot of other countries do, and that is to kill any tortoises or reptiles brought in illegally. I will try and find the link about the ones that are crushed in one of the European countries. (I think it may have been Sweden).
