Coldframes - Page 7

Hooray, at long last the cold frames are finally arriving.

I bet you were getting fed up waiting for them.

Does anyone have the dimensions on these- they would make a lovely little sunny spot for if I go out and it starts to rain or something for the torts, as I usually lock them out of the she and just ipen the cat flap for them, but this would be a better solution for if im outside- knowing they had a nice basking spot, would also make a nice laying spot I spose.

These loo alot better than the one i had before, it was crap- it was £20 from Lidl, and only just was able to put it together without massive gaps,and even then oine of my torts broke it.

josh they measure 100 length, 96 width and 48cms in height, so a good size.

Is a cold frame absolutely necessary I have 2 torts that cannot live together therefore I would need to buy 2 with those and their houses would take up a lot of space in their enclosure ,what is everyones opinion,

or am I being mean.

cold frames aren,t essential but mine have a choice of their wooden house or the frames, they use both, the frames do heat up quick and I mounted mine on wood and they are on paving slabs with soil in for digging in, but as long as you have some kind of waterproof shelter preferably raised in case of heavy rain they are fine, either will do if you don,t have much space, mine are also shut in at night for safety we have foxes where we live, the choice is up to you there are lots of ideas in the housing section there is a posting just of photos of outside areas, well worth a look.

Thanks for that,am toying with the idea of buying a big CF and separating it have modelled my enclosure on different parts of everyones on here very inspiring site am enjoying the enthusiasm I thought I was the only one to adore these wonderful creatures.

Ok dumb blonde question coming up but what is best a house with hemp bedding outside in enclosure or a coldframe????????????

both houses serve different purposes, the frames get nice and warm from the sun but cool over night, wooden houses stay cool when its hot but are warmer than the outside temps at night etc, plus I have heatlamps in mine for cold mornings etc, my torts have a wooden house plus a coldframe so can choose, the frame has soil in and the house warm bedding, they use the frames when its warm but since they,ve had the houses seem to use them more, I think it depends on how much space you have and how much you want to spend mine are spoilt.
