Snake and dog
I was moving some rocks in the garden the other day when I found, underneath one, a tiny snake skeleton. There was no other material,no skin just bare bones. My German Shepherd, who is always by my side wanted to see what I was placing on my palm so I put my hand out for him to have a sniff. When he sniffed my hand he went into a mad barking frenzy which meant he could smell snake and was warning everything in the vicinity to look out! I was quite amazed, as the tiny skeleton was just that, a tiny, dried out line of minute bones, yet he knew it had once been a snake and went into his special "snake bark warning routine" He also has a special bark for hedgehogs. What a marvellous sense of smell dogs have and are used for everything from detecting disease in us humans to finding long-dead bodies. www.cactusinspain.com |
