I would say as big as you have space for. If you've got the room make it as big as possible then he/she will have plenty of room to explore

This is a question i was about to ask... so you dont think a 2meter x 2meter outside enclosure is to big for a tortoise thats only 5.5cm long?? im making it as sturdy as possible that it'll last him a good few years whilst he grows.

Outdoors can be as big as you like, my vet told me not to have a massive tortoise table because they are cold blooded and struggle to get back into the heat source which sort of contradicts what I am being told on here he owns a big independent vets too and is the leading tortoise expert in the area as far as I know.

Sorry to disagree with your vet, my tortoises have the run of my garden, and 99% of the time, they make their own way back to the GH where the heat is. The only time they dont, is if there is a sudden drop in temps, or they stay out all night during the Summer months.
They have done this for the last 25yrs or so.
My garden is 65ftx35ft.

thats fine i value others experience he told me not to hibernate splat either because he didnt believe it necessary with the days of central heating and food being available all year round which i definately buy into infact splats heat light has been off for about 45 mins now since he went in his man cave and now hes come out the ambient temp of the table is 25 degreeswould we sayy thats ok i mean its not far short of room temperature anyway
