Default Kite flying

Does anyone fly kites? Myself and my son went for a walk in the field behind us and found a kite with string still attached. We have had great fun flying it. I've never flown a kite before, it's really cool, something magical about controlling the wind.

My kids have all had kites. We got some great ones for them for Christmas about four years ago - an owl, dragon and butterfly.
Hubby has recently put a kite on a pole above the roof. It's a red kite (as in the bird of prey, not the colour of the kite ) and prevents seagulls nesting on the roof.

I used to make my own kites as a kid, by lashing two sticks into a cross and fastening a diamond of polythene over them. They never flew very well though, I used to run along the floor dragging this bit of plastic behind me.
I blame the cub scouts.

Yes, but you have to use the wind to your advantage in order to fly the kite.

We were poor kids so never had such things. We did however try to make our own like Nick, but ours never flew either. I can just see all these kids running along with plastic tied to sticks bouncing along behind them. I blame Blue Peter, we never went to scouts.

Emma, my hubby has just bought a bird scarer kite for his allotment. I did point out that there are already 3 down there so that should be sufficient but he did insist. Boys and their toys eh?

Here it is, click the pic to watch it fly. That's not me talking, it's my daughter.
