RNS Treatment
After a conversation with Piglet and my vet i have brought a Nebuliser to treat a long term sick tortoise i took in last year she’s not been right since i got her, any way after just 4 goes with the nebuliser she has made more progress than a course of baytril in such a short space of time - she’s not right yet but getting there !!
Well i put it down to a combination of the nebuliser and the miracle lamp Mega-Ray 100w Heres are piccy of how i deliver the the F10, and for those that don’t know how they work, air is pumped into the box via the plastic vail which contains the F10 in the bottom, this atomises the liquid and delivers the drug right into the tortoises respiratory system where the bacteria is growing, so the RNS is being killed a source. The tortoise is in the box so that the air she breaths is humid and contains maximum amount of f10, for other reptiles in vivs etc you could just pump into the viv - humans use them with face masks, but i cant see a face mask staying on the tortoise for that long It takes about 20 - 25mins to get the full 5ml into the box i then leave her in there for upto a hour so she can take full advanatge on the treatment, becuase its dark she is not stressed at all by it. Dazza Great this has become a sticky, but i would not advocate buying a nebuliser and F10 and treating your own tortoises, without first seeking the advice of a good vet, this treatment was given under supervison of a vet |

Wow dazza thats amazing! What a great idea!
I constantly worry about RNS, even tho bruce has never had anything really wrong at all. It's reassuring that things can be done with a bit of inititive and support from experienced members! xxx |

Well was going to buy a viv and do it that way but when i came across this in the garage i hibernate my tortoises in these boxes so have a good supply in the corner of the garage
Any good restaurant or fruit and veg wholesaler would probably be glad to get rid.. Dazza |

I have had a nebulizer for about four years now Darren, and has worked well for a couple of
my tortoises that had RNS.

Great sandy - did it stay away ??
This old girl has not been right since i got her, she was found in the garage hibernating mid spring scraping at the box the old lady died over winter and they remembered the torotise when they were clearing out !! she's not a big fan of other torotises so she's on her own she should really go to a pet home but i can't let her go until she 100%, the rns goes then she grones and wheezes for a couple of weeks then shes fine for a couple of weeks and you think you've cracked it, then she gets RNS and so the cycle begins !! She needs plenty of space and some TLC Dazza |

Yes it did Darren.
Sounds like this tortoise is a loner, and maybe better off that way. As I know another keeper who has a very large Whitei, that if she tries to put her with others, including whiteis she gets a runny nose. So has to be kept seperate all the time.
