Gordon I didn't know you had any of this species but you are such a mystery with your exotic secrets!
Jonathan I have lots of different things but I like to keep you all guessing it's more fun that way.

Hi Jonathan
I'm not good at posting pictures. They do build large nests light crocodiles rather than dig holes and then they guard the nest for a few days after laying. The eggs are soft shelled like terrapins but the size of billiard balls and need lots of humidity. Fortunately mine have only ever laid infertile eggs as they aren't the easiest tortoise to find a home for.

They are beautiful as I have seen them in the flesh:0)
You do need a lot of space for them, but worth it if you have.

What an excellent film! I found it really fascinating to watch the nest-building process and I had no idea the female would then protect her eggs, unlike other species, which lay and then leave their eggs to incubate, hatch and then fend for themselves.
Such stunning specimens too! I have to admit to becoming quite green with envy at their lovely enclosure.
Thanks for sharing that, Jonathan.

Yes those browns are just so cuddly looking. I'm sure they're not really but they have great appeal.

Chris has enclosures that make most of us despair! He's got loads of lovely turtles such as diamondbacks which are just stunning.

And he has breeding groups of hermanni hermanni from several different regions of the range of that tortoise. So he's got his Spanish/Majorcan group, and a separate Puglia Italian group etc. It's really quite exceptional, I'm not aware of anyone else having anything like it.
