Leg Scales
This is Celestia, a rehomer I've had for a couple of years. She's 20 years old and had one owner prior to me, who gave her up reluctantly due to having knee replacements she was struggling to recover from and had fallen and broken her nose taking Celestia outside.
She has a very domed carapace as you can see. She settled in well and after her quarantine has enjoyed her summers being outside with the other females. She's a quiet tort, no fuss, just likes to get some sun and then dig under the carex and chill. She's been taking longer to eat recently so I have kept her separate. She's had daily baths and initially reptoboost baths, which perked her appetite up again, although she continues to eat very slowly still. She eats up everything I offer though and her tongue is nice and pink and there is nothing obviously sore within her mouth. I have noticed how white her legs are looking and that there's barely any scales on her back legs and the ones on the front legs are looking raised, perhaps even like they're loose. I haven't come across this before and have torts older than her so I assume it's not age-related. I don't think she's brushing herself against anything and I haven't seen her biting her legs or showing any signs of irritation. She walks fine, has normal reflexes and uses her front legs to help her eat. She hasn't lost weight, is toileting normally, her temp gradients in her table are fine too. Is this something that could be fungal? My vets aren't seeing any animals other than emergencies and I don't consider this as such nor do I wish to pay what they're charging just for a phone call. I might just be overthinking and there's no problem at all. Any ideas?

I don't see anything wrong with the legs. In fact, that's a beautiful tortoise! Maybe the "whiteness" will go away once the weather is nice enough for her to go outside?????

she is lovely Emma. has she been kept indoors and or in damp soil - she is a digger I think by her claws. I haven't seen the legs as white as that but had a rehomer who had been fed on beans and her shell was white and her legs pale but after a while you couldn't tell her from the rest - except by her name ! She loves being outside, Clare, and she will dig underneath the carex but she’s otherwise a pretty docile tort. The main thing is that she’s eating and drinking and I guess her white legs are just a characteristic individual to her. Reassuring that no one has jumped on it and recognised a particular disease so I’ll let her associate with the females again.

She’s an absolute sweetheart. She’s very feminine and gentle.
