Temperatures
I use a halogen flood bulb for my tables, if can get quite hot directly under the bulb, but due to the flood effect of the bulb the heat is then spread out getting gradually cooler, my question is if directly under the lamp is too hot, but there is places in the table at to bask at lower temps and a cool end from them to completely escape the heat,
would this cause any problems?

Yes because they can't bask effectively. Have you tried a lower watt bulb ora thermostat?

Agree with Lynn, you need to get the basking temp right, try moving it further away or change the wattage.

too hot will dry them out, and could cause respiratory conditions too, ideally - right heat in right place at right time ideally ! let us know how you get on. CB

Make sure whatever heat source you use, it is up one end of the enclosure and not in the middle. Then the tortoise can easily get away from any direct heat:0)
