New arrival
I’ve been trying for 8 years and I’ve finally done it. Hatched a Western Herman’s tortoise.
https://imgur.com/a/QXfiGSY Finally got 2 clutches from my female totalling 9 eggs with 6 fertile. |

Thankyou both. Its been weird, I’ve had eggs most years. Either infertile or failed to develop beyond the first couple of weeks. Ive let the male run around with my male Easterns to get a bit of competition going. With the incubation this year I’ve used bone dry medium and been doing lower temps than normal 30-31 and dialling the temps down to 26-27c overnight. Seems to have done the trick. Second one poked its head out this morning.

That's fantastic news, Dave. Congratulations.
How much does the little one weigh?

Its been so long since I bothered incubating anything I forgot I havent got any scales so no idea on the weight (Ive ordered some scales). Looking a bit more tortoise shaped today, nice keyhole marking.
