Nearly lost my son in an accident......
i been off the site for a few days, due my 15 year old son Willz decided to fetch a ball back from the bushes during his football match on sunday (just gone), no-one warned us there was an 80ft embankment drop on the other side of the bushes/tress , he lost his footing and fell all the way down and a fence at the bottom finally made him stop.....
Unfortunately his head smacked the fence and his knee hit a breeze block at the bottom of fence, was not a pretty site with his knee all cut open ! very deep too. After the paramedics arrived(who were so brilliant !) it took them 2 hours to get him moved off the embankment and a chain of football dads to move him along then off to a&e we went, by some mircle after lots of tests and scans we were told the only damage was his knee cap was broke in half other than cuts n bruises and he needed 3hours of surgery to wire knee back together. They couldnt believe he was still alive or not injured more badly. I just thank my lucky stars that my son is still with us and will actually be able to walk again hopefully in about 3 months time I was allowed to bring him home from hospital today with a thigh to ankle cast on, stiches come out next tuesday.. but he is being brave and already tryin to do things for himself, stubborn bugger that he is (wonder who he takes after lol), and he has missed axle n ozzie loads. So pls all you parents / grandparents out there give your kids an extra hug tonight when they go to bed because i never been so terrified in all my life at how close i came to losing my first born and hope never to feel it again. And any children reading pls never ever go near step embankments / hills it may look safe to climb down / ride down or even level to stand on but sometimes its not, so keep safe and dont risk it xxx

Thanks for sharing your story, that sounds horrific and he his so lucky that he wasnt seriously injured, as i was reading your story you wonder what the outcome was and thank goodness it wasnt to serious for him. As for the stubborn bit i think my 15year old son would be the same, thats teens for ya. Is there anything to stop this happening to anybody else in the future? Anyway me and my family wish wilz a speedy recovery, kim

Oh my gosh !!! Im so glad your son is on the road to recovery now. There needs to be some sort of sign warning people about this embankment drop.

So glad your son came out with his life, it could have been a lot worse. Someone up there was looking after him.

thank you all for your comments, yes someone was looking out for him me thinks too, as for the fence, we are just looking into it now who is responsible for the field to try and get something done, there isnt any signs there currently and the so called fence is just some posts with about 3 strips of wire, my husband just put his leg thro ducked a bit and was past without even having to move it and trust me hes a big guy !, but hopefully we can make them change it asap to stop anyone else being hurt.
thanks again all Michelle xx ps when i get time im going back up there to take pictures of this embankment and will post up to show everyone.
