Smile Advice and ID on my 2 adopted hermanns .. axle & ozzie pls ....

ok finally sorted some pictures.
We think they are both THH breed from pictures we viewed ?

And we think Axle is a boy and Ozzie is a girl , even though previous owner said they both boys when we got .

They where hatched in 2006 according to their certificates from xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxx.

However Axle has grown much larger too fast i reckon ... i think he has pyramiding or does he look ok to you guys ? and also he has deep ridges in his plastron ? thats not normal is it ?

He is currently 110mm and weights 222g , is this too much ?
hopefully this pictures will help other ppl know what it looks like and not let this happen to theirs !

from what I understand it happens from too much protein (they where being fed on those t-rex pellets), they had NO uvb in thier previous home either and was kept in a small tub with sawdust.... hope this helps other learn not to make these mistakes

Can Axle ever recover ? and any food that i should avoid pls ?? ie high protein vegs / weeds ?? i was told not too hibernate him ?

Ozzie is 750mm and weighs 97g , shell is nice and smooth so i hope she is more healthy ?

Think i have been here hours now reading over the last week , tryin to get up to speed with thier needs, and thanks to all of you great ppl who have been advising already and continue to do so , without this site i would be lost.

Its the best one by far that i found from all my net searching ......

any advice/id/ comments will be very much appreciated.

a worried new mummy.

Michelle

Hi, both tortoises are not Thh. Axle is a Testudo hermanni boettgeri and Ozzie looks to be one as well although the plastron shot is a bit blurry. As for sex I'm thinking Axle-boy and Ozzie-girl but cannot be 100%.

thanks chris i'll try to get a better shot of ozzie, their certificates dont say which type but they are suppose to be from the same batch according to XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX who sold them to previous owners, and do you think i will be able to allow them to carry on living together if they are brother n sister or should i seperate ?, sometimes the size diffference worries me as well as axles constantly steps all over ozzie, but as soon as we get a bit spare time, we will build a 3ft x 3ft table it they can stay together ?.
the viv isnt ideal but its all i had compared to the little silly plastic tub they were in with sawdust !, but i want to move them again soon as.......
also what do you make of axles shell / plastron pitting and their current sizes / weights ?
thanks for help
best wishes michelle aka goldblend

Default ok thats great

ok so we fairly sure about their breed and sexes now ...
so does this mean i will have to seperate ? and what about Axles extra growth compared to Ozzie (sizes n weights in original posting ) and is Axles shell / plastron a problem ?
thanks Michelle

Hcording to the jackson ratio, both your torts are the right weight for their size.
