I reckon that's what it will be. They hide in small cracks during the day and come out at night to chomp the leaves.

I'm not sure what gets rid of them except that powder used also for ants but you don't want that near torts or tort food. Pouring water into the cracks flushes them out then you can squash them but it's knowing exactly where they are to begin with

Make a weak solution of washing up liquid, put in a sprayer, and mist the leaves, trying to get underneath as well, most insects dont like it. Toms, sprinkle a small amount of epsom salt around the base of the plant, not on the stem, water normaly. This helps make the plant healthy and fruit well. Very old tips.

I'm not sure they work as a wormer in the same way as a proper wormer.. in fact I've not come across anything that says butternut squash is any good as a natural wormer at all. I have read stuff that says pumpkin and chicory are (which I take to mean the help reduce worms). Butternut squash I think is the same family as pumpkin but I've not seen anything to say it has the same properties. Can anyone clarify this?

BTW, Asda are now selling it a 49p too

It has some natural worming properties as well as Pumpkin, but it is not a be and end all, if you suspect worms or your new tort has not been wormed, it is best to have a sample poop test by a vet.
