The breeder who I got my baby from said she doesn't use the Jackson ratio anymore she just does the finger test? She has been keeping torts for many years and they are all so healthy. She can tell by having a feel just inside their shell at the base of their neck if they are over or under weight. I'm not that clever, I need a chart!
Hmm, I might try the finger test on my wife to see if she is under weight

Vicky,
Go into your Control Panel
Open Internet Options
Click on the Security tab
Click on Custom Level
Scroll down and find
Allow script-intiated windows without size or position constraints
and Enable

That should do it

Danny

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww it works for me, so if anyone wants to check you can PM me the size, weight, sex and species of your 10cm and above Hermanns, Spur-thighed or Marginated tortoise and I'll check.

Thanks Dan - that's great. It actually is also quite a surprise as my tortoise who I thought was quite small but growing well is overweight and Daisy who I thought looked like she had been grown too quick and would be over is actually about right!!

It's possible that the Jackson Ratio for smaller tortoises is less useful than the other Jackson one. At smaller sizes the slightest error is magnified and has a massive impact on the result. I think there were reasons why the Hailey one doesn't include smaller tortoises and that is a very much more recent invention.

These ratios can be useful but in my opinion we need to be a bit cautious with them.
