Default Pelodiscus sinensis

Hi 😊 I got a rescued baby pelodiscus sinensis, nów he looks ok but before he used to live in very dirty water. I checked pH in my aquarium and its about 8, what is the Best Way to make it proper (about 7?6, 5?). I read also that good idea is to put some salt into the aquarium, is it true? How much salt is ok then?
