Have you adjusted the egg so its not face down?
I've been thinking about it all day and was wondering about the twin thing, if it is twins which would account for it hatching from the bottom of the egg is its twin restricting it from making its way out ? I think by now I might have had to investigate. Keep us posted .

Yes I did adjust the position of the egg, I also moved it off the vermiculite and into a little tub with some damp kitchen roll underneath it.
I dont think it is twins, although I have a very limited view of what is inside so there could be a small parasitic twin I suppose.

I checked the egg during the night and have just looked again, no progress! however I am very concerned that it seems to be much less lively and it is not opening its eyes

I haven't got any experience in anything like this at all and not a lot of theoretical knowledge either, so I can't really advise at all because I'd probably be wrong. Could you possibly remove a bit more of the shell to try and get a better look at what's going on without disturbing the baby too much? Like I said, that might be completely the wrong thing to suggest, but if you think there's an observable deterioration then I'd say some kind of action is better than none. Good luck and I have my fingers crossed for the little one. X

It is looking weak now Stells, I can see that there is probably some yolk left but cant tell how much, I am very tempted to get it out before it just dies, I wondered if it would take some water from a cotton bud this morning but it didnt

This is the egg yesterday morning with the hatchling looking bright eyed

and this is this morning, as you can so I have removed a little of the shell to try to assess if there is any yolk remaining, I took as little as possible.

It doesnt look good does it?

Might it just be tired from trying to get out? I know that babies sleep a lot, but if it has still got a yolk sac and the yolk sac is stuck to the inside of the egg, the sac mustn't really be broken. What a conundrum, I'd be a nervous wreck. Are there any breeders on here you can contact to see if they've had this before?

Yes, maybe it is just sleeping. If it is still living off the yolk then it should be OK whilst it's doing that, shouldn't it? I mean in terms of getting the nutrients etc it needs?
