I found a picture of one of my girls when she was a baby. Hopefully you can see the difference in head and throat colouration, even eye colour.

This can be a tricky one. I bought the turtles below as a pair and the 'female' a few months later exposed himself and the over a couple of weeks changed colour. I have some juveniles that i am monitoring closely to see how the colour changes and also how their diet can affect their colour.

I agree, the sexual dimorphism in this species can indeed be tricky when the animals are young.

Brilliant photos both - so it could be a case of "watch this space"!

Mine was also incubated at 24C specifically to produce a male. You all know the breeder (TJ) whom I trust implicitly.

What do they go for in the UK? I can't keep them in GA because they are native and protected... that sucks. Nice looking animal.

Not sure what temperature my little ones were incubated at but one of them hatched in the greenhouse where it was laid and the eggs were missed! So in my case it will have to be a case of wait and see! If all turn out to be males it will leave me with 5 males and one female!

Thats going to be a headache Richard.

You could try Linda S. last time I spoke to her she had 09 & 10 hatchlings that are all looking female. I have 5 of them and I'm pretty confident they are females.

Ed, £75-100 is the going rate for small Clemmys over here.
