Default Advice

Hi all

I joined this forum a couple of years ago. Since then I have moved house and I am thinking about buying a tort.

But look for some advice first hence why on on here doing my home work.

I am looking at getting a hermann tort. But aren't there a few different varitys of these. Whats the difference and which one is best. I am looking at getting a hatchling so what age should they be sold on buy the breeder ?

At what age can they live outside for the summer months ?

Thanks for a good forum

Matt

So did I, heres the link - ************** PM poster for link

They sell Hermanns THB around 2yrs old.

If you have heating outside they can live there from Spring I think, but I am quite new to torts but this is what I will be doing from next Spring. I will have a small shed with a combination lamp on a timer. Obviously you will need to think about electricity outside. This will lead to a covered encloser for the choice of being in or out.

Best of luck.

As for best, no such thing. :P it's what ever suits you better for example, if you dont have alot of room you want a tort that grows smaller.. add a few details of how and were the tort will be living and we will be able to give advise on what would suite you best. Goodluck.

Thanks for your thoughts

I have a nice size garden which is secure. I have an outside power source too. I was thinking of getting an outdoor hutch like what they have for sale in the tortoise shop for outside and keeping the tortoise outside for as much of the year as possible.

Do I need a heat source in the hutch ?

I have seen inside table top enclosures too, would I need one of these for a young tort before he goes outside ?

Thanks

Do they have an actual shop or is this a strictly online busness?

Only tortoise perfection will suffice

The Tortoise Shop has meticulously cared for, and maintained, several colonies of differing species of tortoise within the UK. With careful expansion and prudent investment over the last few years has seen The Tortoise Shop grow into the UK's market leader in tortoise breeding, retailing, tortoise product design and in-house manufacturing. However, unlike most large companies The Tortoise Shop still prides itself in operating a very personal and friendly service - putting customers and their tortoises first!

You seem to have a connection... who are the owners?

No connection at all, never seen the site before tonight. I just copied the statement at the bottom of the home page.
