Default Homemade incubator airholes?

I made a homemade incubator a while ago from a polystyrene box, I used it once when I had my very first unexpected eggs, however, the eggs did not hatch and I dont know if it was due to the incubator or if they just werent any good. I have since then borrowed a Brinsea Polyhatch incubator and used that with success (the auto turn disabled) What I want to know is if anyone who has a homemade one similar to mine, what airholes do you have and where? this is what I am suspecting may be a problem with mine, it would be great to have this one as a backup but at the moment I dont trust it!!

i made 4 holes in the top of mine using a length of 15mm copper pipe, then cut 4 short pieces of pipe and pushed them into the holes, looks nice and neat.
you can always cover the holes up if you need to.
mine worked a treat last year.

you could also put some holes somewhere on the side to give more airflow if needed.

Thanks I see what you mean now, I had made a smaller hole than that on each side of mine, maybe they need to be bigger like yours and neater like yours
I am not sure if I can do mine on the top because when I made it I cut out a big square in the lid and added perspex so that I could view the eggs without having to open the lid too much, I then dropped the cut out piece back in so as to retain heat.
Thanks for the pic.
