portable heat/uv lamp holder
Hi, I've been looking to purchase a portable heat/uv lamp holder. Do they sell them?
I may be putting the wrong description in google, lol. I am going on holiday so am taking my tortoises in their indoor table over to my aunts. The problem is their heat/uv bulb suspends from a chain overhead. What I need is a' desk lamp' type holder so I can put their bulb in and my aunt can have the tortoise table anywhere. The bulb is a solar glo made by exo terra ( I think). Thankyou Lynne x |

You need to make sure it has a ceramic fitting ideally to cope safely with the high temperature especially if its going to be on for 12 hours..ish. I think you may be able to get just the clamp part for your lamp holder. None of mine are on chains, all are clamp fittings. Im sure I have seen them for less than £5.
Have you checked the box your lamp holder came in? pretty sure mine had both supplied. |

Oh yeh, I've found the clamp in the box, silly me, lol.
Just wondering though when using the clamp you can't adjust the height up and down can you? I'm regulary adjusting the chain the lamps suspending from to get just the right temperatures. How would you get the correct temperature with the clamp? ( from day to day) thanks lynne x |

I dont adjust some of mine as dont have the option with some of them. (depends what you attach them to) You can get a stand which you can adjust height of but I think they are pretty expensive especially just for a holiday.
I have one attached to the pole of a nearby standard lamp! this works well as you can move it up/down. So it depends what you can find to attach it to really. |

Once you get the right height it won't change much if the weather stays much the same. the bulb should be vertical though, not at an angle. It can cause the bulb to blow and it would invalidate the warranty (not that the company could tell if you did that)

If using the clamp I think you have to have the bulb at a angle, I've not set it up yet so not 100% sure.
Thanks for replies! Lynne x |
