there's nothing wrong with those who choose not to use them or those that do, I'm giving my sully and the hatchlings pellets (nutrazu and Exotic leaf eater) but as the hatchlings will be sold don't really know for certain what their growth will be like. At the moment they are all lovely and smooth and growing well, Bolder my sully also has grassland pellets mixed in with his and I posted a photo of him a while back and had some very nice comments about how smooth he is, he's now a year, but again I don't know when you'd expect to see problems if any. I do provide a humid area and beleive I have everything else right also that pellets alone aren't the cause of pyramidding, the torts also have a good selection of home grown weeds/plants everyday which are always eaten so they aren't fussy, anyway I think they work for me and always tell my buyers what the babies have been having and its their choice how they carry on.

going back to the original question but with a twist.
What about Chinchilla pellets - low in protein but high in fibre??? Only asking as I have a pet chin, and am wondering if the torts would like a pellet or 2 as a treat once a week or so???

Don't know about Chinchilla food but had a look what's in em, similar to Bunny food, with some fruit's, there are different makes and can't see why a few moderated would be of any harm. Main make up of the pellet look's to be grass. Although i would stick with a Tortoise pellet.

I never fed pellets to my torts, and then I got a much older male red foot who was fed pretty much predominantly on pellets, cabbage and banana, and he looks fantastic!

He doesnt get cabbage or 'nana anymore, but I've brought pellets in to all their diets.

All I can say so far is that their poo smells much more!
