Hatching!

I woke up this morning to Egg number 3 starting to hatch. The little fella has punched a small hole in his shell and we can just see his head. He is now taking a little break.

No sign from the other 7 eggs laid 8 weeks ago today. But I am sure some of them will be along in the days to come.

Their enclosure is set up and waiting but what do I do immediately after hatching? I was planning on giving a shallow bath to allow a drink before weighing and putting into enclosure.

Worried about the yolk sac and how long to leave in incubator. Does it have to be 100% absorbed before you take them out?

Will post pictures once he emerges more...

Congratulations Eddie! Theres no rush to get them out of the incubator. I leave them in until yolk sac is completely absorbed. (I went on holiday a couple of years ago and my Dad left the hatchlings in their tub, got them out each day, bathed them, fed them in their tub! Placed whole tub under lamp for bask, then put them back in the incubator, for best part of two weeks!) Leaving them in the incubator helps them to straighten out.

You can spray the unhatched eggs regularly with warm water. I would up the humidity if you can.

With the pipped one check the membrane isnt over his face and you can offer a drink (i have trickled water down the front of their face, just a little and seen them drink.

If it hatches with a yolk sac I place kitchen roll on bottom of small tub, make a "donut" so hatchling can sit in and kitchen roll over the top like a tent all damp.

I would also put pipped egg in another tub to save him clambering over the others

He still isn't out of the shell yet and eyes aren't open. I will check yolk sac once he is out. Think I will worry about handling him...

Awww bless , it's looking lovely. It might just need a little rest and a sleep. Looks like it's doing fine. They are tougher than you think.

One of mine , popped her head out then sat there for two days cos she had a larg yoke sac, so I gave her little drops of water off the tip of my little finger, which she drank.

Cute. Keep pictures coming. He will be fine sat there for as long as it takes. It's a tiring think cracking an egg. Lol

Hatchlings are a lot tougher than you think, you only really have to be careful not to grab too tightly, as their shell is soft.
I would drip a drop of water over the nares, to help keep him/her hydrated. You can use a dropper to do this.

He is out! Came out about 2 hours ago... Thank you for all the support

We have bathed him and he took a little drink (we think)

He is now in the enclosure. He spent so long in his shell that he has completely straightened out and absorbed yolk sac.
It is surprising how much he is walking around already. He is spending a lot of time under the lamp (temperature about 31.5)

Should we be expecting him to eat at all? Or worry that he sits under the lamp a lot?

I will post pictures in the picture section later today to show his progress.
