Oh, didn't realise it was on. That will teach me to check in to the site more often. I am very excited as these are the first eggs I have had and although the male tortoise has been very "active" he looked more like a fumbling teenager than a "man" and has never once shown his wares.

Hi, how do you tell if tortoise has died in the egg? Up until earlier this week all looked good with the egg getting fuller and still plenty of red veining to be seen. Now I'm not sure that i see any veins and the embryo looks just as dark but is irregular in shape and doesn't seem to have grown.

Meriel.
It is hard to tell if a hatchling has died.
But carrying on till the end is all good experience:0)
After a time you cant/wont see veins as the hatchling grows. As it takes up most of the egg. Time will tell.

Hi, thank you. Eggs are on day 52 so I guess if they are going to do anything I won't have too long to wait. Have been through loads of past posts and have seen pictures of eggs looking similar to how mine look- some alive, some not but I'm still excited.

If I remember, your temps were on the low side to start with?
So may take a little longer to hatch:0)
