irish tortoise vets

hi does anyone know of any tortoise vets in ireland , i know of one in wicklow bairbre o malley
but thats it, i rang up gillabey vets in cork and was told by the secetary they had a tortoise vet
but when i was called in he told me he never wormed a tortoise before and didnt know
how, and that they dont have a small enough microchip to micro chipp a tortoise,
so im guess ing hes not a tortoise vet

I have just looked on the vets for herps list. None I am afraid in Ireland at all.
The one you phoned cant be a reptile/tortoise vet as I would have thought worming would
have been a basic need for a tort vet.

shocking isnt it! ill just have to go to wicklow to get him micro chipped and wormed
my dad wont be too happy - he, ll have to drive me , about 2 hrs away ,
i sais ill give him 50 -60 euro for petrol, that should persuay him

What size is your tortoise?
As most of us wont get them chipped until well over four inches in length. I personally
dont chip mine unless I want breed from them.
It also might be useful to ask the vet you use to ask advice from a vet that does know how
to worm and chip torotises. As the micro chip cant just go anywhere.

my tortoise carapace is 4 1/2 inch straight line, i need to change
his licence anyway cause he has a german licence and they
used a photograph as form of identification but at the last
cities meeting it was decided this wasnt going to be accepted
as a form of identification anymore, im going up to wicklow to the
tortoise vet and will get him wormed aswell and i might
get her to do a blood and feces sample while im up there and possibly an x ray to see everything is ok,
im going to get this done because im so far from the tortoise vets that ill get him checked while im there
it ll be expensive but worth it!!

Hi Paul, why don't you go on the train to Dublin and get the Dart to Bray, if its a problem with your Dad. It will take you longer than 2 hours from Cork, it took me about 1 and a half hours from here and I am a lot closer than you are, would be more like 3 to 3 and a half hours. Would be less expesive to than €50 or €60 for petrol.

Barbre O'Malley is highly recommended.

My local vet put me in contact with her as they were hounest enough to tell me that they do not specialise with exotic species.
