? For any one who keep any species of large tort.
Hi, doesnt matter what breed you have but if you have a BIG tort would you please share with me your knowledge on bathing- i have 5 adult reds between 10-13 inches and in their table i have a 1x2 ft plastic planter thing which i have been using as a bath/water supply for them. Only i am going to have to take it out as i physically cant move it to clean etc and they dirty it at least 2 times a day. Was wondering what other tort mums and dads do to provide a drinking/bathing spot for large torts? I also still bath them in my big jacuzzi (obvoiusly without the bubbles on! Lol) once a week and they have a smaller water bowl dish to drink from. Any tips you can share would be great x

Have you seen those things that people mix cement on. My husband got one from Wickes. I thought maybe one of those could be used. Mortar board??

It's called a Tuffspot mixing tray. Just an idea.

not deep enough! any one with any other ideas please share! was thinking of a 10cm deep roasting tray with handles- it would be stiff enough to pick up as one i got now goes wobbly- or is that a stupid idea. do other large troup owners not leave a bath down? only noticed from pics of reds enclosures (adults i mean) no one has a bath?

hi laura, my reds are a good few inches shorter and nowhere near as big as yours... but i have a pool they can submerge themselves in a little , which they drink out of... i struggle getting that in and out myself without it either going all over the place or ll down me.. but i think the roaster sounds a good idea and one I might try myself... i bath mine every other day in the bath though otherwise and I have a new fogger ( a exo terra one) on for 20 minutes 4 times a day in their enclosure to make sure the humidity is up and ok..

I've wondered about this myself although my reds are about 6cm long so I'm a long way off yet! I was thinking of using the jumbo cat litter trays from pets at home which are plenty deep enough and could probably take one RF at a time quite comfortably. Check them out and see what you think. They come with a detatchable rim which I would probably take off!

I don't worry about soaking my larger tortoises when they are indoors. The only thing I'm concerned about is that they have clean fresh water for drinking at all times.
I can't imagne the mess created with the availabilty of a soaking area for large tortoises. Quote:

I just use a large bowl for drinking water indoors. And physically bath them in the family bath.
If I had a bathing dish/pool etc in with the leopards it would always be filthy, they have a tendacy to poo in the water dish

my adult leopards have deep water bowls inside their shed and just outside this is so they can get their heads right under the water.then halfway between the shed and their main grazeing area they have a large plastic dog bed full of water they can get right into, strange but the smaller adults use it most.
