red marks help!
Well I admit that I am a bit of a worrier... but something seems to be rubbing Teabags skin she has the red rub mark on her neck I have posted about before but have noticed one on her leg today, this can't be from her shell... also a red mark on her shell by the one on her leg and on the edge of her shell... the first pic is of her leg, but the madam wouldn't sit still...
Any idea what is causing this? Anything I should do? She is on coco coir that I keep damp and she is bathed everyday... She still eats and wanders about...

I guess I could... it does dry out from time to time (we were away this weekend and it was dry when we got back) but no I don't have specific dry areas, but there is stale and play sticks she can sit on...

Yeah? I will try that but will need to wait for Russ to get home... but it is not the same colour as the coir, the marks are blood red, the coir is brown...

it just seems strange that her neck, leg and shell has these red spots, it could be that, if it was me i would keep the substrate dry and see if it improves, or give the areas a good rub with a towel or flannel to see if you can remove them x

If it was mine and the marks can't be removed or explained then I'd plan a visit to the vets, if it turned out to be bleeding/dry blood then I'd be worried. I don't know the signs for septacaemia but would imagine that should it be blood then the sooner it was treated the better.

The mark on the side of her shell looks like a bruise and the other bit on her leg looks like shedding skin that has gone soggy, it may have got an infection if it has been damp.
On a larger tort I would say dry it and spray it with that antibiotic hoof rot spray for grazing animals but she is too small to spray! If she was mine I would clean it up with dilute Tamodine and put her on paper for a few days making sure no flys get near her. |
