Default Sid depresses

I have been to the vets with Sid, he said he thinks she is depressed because of the weather. He is expecting quite a few torts to suffer this year. She is lucky because she has got enough body fat to survive winter. I have got to get her a 160 w uva & uvb light to try and snap her out of it, also a cuttle fish and reptavite. He gave her some pelets that I have to soak and put with her food. If these don't work he will give her some blood test and xrays. Her legs not holding her and the other symptoms he thinks are psychological, she wants to hibernate. I am hoping he is right and we can snap her out of it. At least he thinks it is nothing serious.

Thanks every one for all your advice.

Jackie

Hi Jackie,

I hope Sid comes round, the mega ray combined lamp is the best on the market for artificial lighting.

You will need to make a make shift indoor enclosure for her now then.

Are the pellets the trex ones, if so they are addictive so try not to keep giving them or you will possibly end up with a battle to eat weeds and flowers when she is better.

Please keep us updated.

Sounds like there is a bigger problem if she is having problems with her legs. Once warm is she still having problems walking?

Yes, it was a tort vet, He had 600 tort's at one time he said. I don't know what pellets they are, he had them in his cupboard and put some into a bag for me, they are quite big and multi coloured. I have to soak them in water. He said they absorb the smell of the food they are put with. I have given her a warm bath today and she was fine on her legs. When I took her out she walked quite quickly, but I couldn't get her to eat.

Does anybody know the best place to buy one of these lamps please. He told me to go on the "eurorep site", but I cant find one on there. I have also rang the shop he told me to get an enclosure from, but I cant get there until the weekend. It's an Hagan he told me to get for her, they are really for fish!! They are what he uses!

Hi Jackie,

I have brought reptile stuff from Dazza at Kimbo's, highly recommended.

Also the Mega Ray is the best lamp for tortoises.

Thanks, would it be better to buy the lamp stand? Or would you recommend something else?
