The larger is an 18inch by 12 by 12 (7.5 gallon) and the smaller are 12 by 8 by 8 (I think)

What would you put in it for a community fish tank? Not a lot I guess but I'd be happy with a few friendly ones

What would you put in it if not fish? Just out of interest? Not sure I'd fancy the dwarf clawed frogs though the fire ebblied newts (as the search called them) are gorgeous.. Bit of a sucker for newts

Aiming for a happy fish community though I think, Andrew and I have both always had fish and neither of us have had any since meeting each other it's not right! lol

ok well the larger one wud be ideal for a mudpuppy (axalotl) the don't grow massiv eunless u over feed them. and if you ever get bored of it then over a month period lower the water level and you can turn it into a terrestial mexican salamander

personally if were on about other animals then i would go with in the larger one
-rosy boa
-tri-coloured hognose
-whitei sand boa
-male calabaria
leaf tailed geckos
cave geckos
garter snakes
cat geckos
smooth greens
bird eatter tarantula

small tanks
desert hairy scorp
cherry centipedes
tai centipedes
pokies
hissing cockroaches
giant millipedes
pill bugs
leaf insects
jones burrowing scorpion
russian sand boas
worm snakes
european slow worms(non -u.k. or must be 4th+ generation)
dwarf velvet geckos
viper geckos
steno sp geckos
large indian mantis
fence or small swift lizards

loads more but thats off the top of my head........(of course i would not keep all of them in a tank) plus i have most of these already but just giving you a rough idea.

now the fish

2 discus wud live happily in the large tank, they don't actually require nor need abig space.....as there very shy and are easy to keep aslong as you have the ph at 6ish.....buffers help to achieve this.

a good comunal tank could consist of
-killi fish (harmless but you need them as adults or theyw ill be eatten...clown killi are beautiful)
-gourami(all are comunal but dwarfs are even better,,,,but only males are colourful)
-coolie leach are great and my tanks are clean becuas eof these guys
-fresh water clams (these are better than a filter lol)
-all tetras apart from empeoer and blacks as there nasty. also don't buy neons at all...they have been inbred so much that they carry a diease that is called neon tetra diease and his can kill other fish but is only carried in neons
-corys
-pleces
-barbs are great but only if you don't have any bettas
-there are over 40 types of bettas and don't mean coloured fighters.....actual different bettas.
-elephant fish (stunning but about £50 each )
-upside down catfish are awesome but messy

this is just a quick run through

if you want a bigger list with whats best in each tank then i will do you one, they will live together and i have bred all apart from elephants.

I'd start with neon tetras, then start adding to that after a week or so, start small work up to the bigger ones

Tetras in general are very hardy fish and it is usually recommended to start with these.

I have in my tank:

Neon Tetras

Cardinal tetras

Golden Loach

Guppies

Killinburras (I think that is what they are called)

Platties

Rams

Plenty more but cant remember

My favourites are:

Plecs

Kissing Gouramis

Neon tetras

pencil fish

Harlequins.

I have to say I have kept Neon Tetras for over 20 years and they have never caused me a problem with diseases etc. My tank just wouldn't be the same with out them.

I would absolutely love a single species tank of pigeon discus, they look very graceful fish. But alas I like to mix and match

a nice few fish you have there, .....over the last 5 years the have become somuch trouble, i personally have seen a high mortality rate with these guys and as every single one is interbred i think it's cruel to continue to profit this by buying more.

as said they were off topi of my head.
