When I was a child it was a typical practice to drill a hole in the rear marginal scutes of a tortoise to teather it, I remember seeing many a tortoise tied up in the back garden of many people.
I have a few tortoises here that still have the hole that once teathered them. I have never though seen in the UK a teathered leopard, burmese or sulcata. D

I have a tortoise Abby that was bought for me for 50 pence from are local pet shop 35 years ago she is the mother to most of my breeding females and also a grandmother possible a great grandmother next season
D

it's a old pratice that is not really doen any more so ther eis not really a need to raise the wareness of stopping it now.
