They are both in separate tanks, with heating UV and external filters. I am having a pond delivered on Tuesday which is going to be suface mounted with a basking area. At least they can go out and enjoy this weather even if we complain!!!

I don't know if the laws are that different in Ireland but over here the local council have to issue pet shop licenses. If this shop is really that bad then you should complain to the local authority and if they don't improve they will have their livestock license taken away. It's worth doing!

I'd like to see a kid do that with my red ear - she's 13" long!!!!! Now that would be a mouth full not to mention that she would happily remove your tongue and any fingers on the way!

Hi,
They're some good lookin turts you got there mate. On looking at the first pic I notice you have pea-grit type substrate... this is a REALLY BAD idea as turtles tend to eat it. It obviously will clog up there digestive system and they will die. Try using some big cobbles from B&Q or something (wash them first though). I have 4 Yb's and 1 Mississippi Map. Also, I believe Red-ears still can be sold in this country but they have to be CB in the UK... might require a certificate too.

I looked into getting a red ear but for a fully grown female you need a 120 gallon tank and I just have not got the room
Plenty of them in the pet shops up here.I went into one pet shop the other day and he had loads of them in a tank which was half filled with water and a very strong filter. The poor things had NOWHERE for them to get out of the water no basking light,no rocks nothing .The poor things were clinging the side of the tank for dear life I spoke to the pet shop owner and said that they should have a basking spot where they can get out of the water but he said that they had only just came in and that he needed to soak their shells When I am next over that way I will definitely be popping in to see if he has given them the adequate things they need, but I bet they are still the same Btw Pumpkin and Duncan are lovely. Good for you Paul
I just can't understand pet shop owners. If I had my own pet shop I would want to look after the animals properly and make sure the people buying them were responsible enough to give them what they need. Sharon |
