Advice please? :)
Hiii
I have three Hermans.....A 5 year old female, 7 year old male and 9 year old female. My problem is that my 5 year old female is T.H.Hercegovinensis while my older male and female are T.H.Boettgeri. The 5 year old T.H.Herc is close to 5 inches SCL if not 5 inches exactly.....should i sell her on? They are housed together (male separate 9 times out of 10) and i would worry about her being mated by my THB male when she gets to an egg laying age. I know T.H.Herc's can lay eggs at 5 3/4inches SCL (according to Danny?). Would cross breeding harm her? I know she has some growing to do until egg laying age but she seems to be going through a growth spurt at the min lol. Anyway long story short. There is no possible way i can separate her aswell! I have no space for a separate enclosure for her aswell So i am asking everyone....would it be kinder on her to be passed on to a keeper who has T.H.Herc's so she can be/breed with her own subspecies? I do like having three torts so i could get another female THB in her place to keep my female Tilly company....At least then i'd have three of the same subspecies. I have her papers, but they will need updating and she will need micro-chipping if i chose to sell her/exchange her for a THB female. Help me decide guys....Thanks

You would need somewhere to keep a new one seperate for a while to quarantine.

I do have a quarantine enclosure but i mean keeping her seperate would be too costly for me personally. The quarantine is 6 months and this i could cope with, but running a 3rd set-up would cost too much (electricity wise) and to have this set up i would have to re-jig evrything around to keep it there permanently Plus Shelly (the 5yr old female in question) is quite interactive with other torts (my female especially and she eats, sleeps and basks in company with her) and i would hate to have her on her own.

If you have 2 set-ups, I don't see why you can't keep the females together and the male seperate. If you want to breed the T.h.boettgeri, than just introduce the female into the males enclosure.

I do see your point Danny I've never really thought about it but can the two subspecies live together without pssing on any pathogens etc to each other? I know they're living together now but im curious lol
And i just didnt know whether i should stick to one subspecies so i can have two females to eventually breed from. And i do know a breeder of T.H.Herc and she would go so nicely with her breeding herd.....i dunno im just really undecided at the min as to whats best for her :/ Thanks

Having the subspecies together (female wise) won't cause any problems. You could always send her out to your friend's to get serviced

Keep em together, I am sure I read that the TH Herc is no longer recognised and is now THB again.
