Default European pond turtle enclosure

Hi guys spring has brought on a new build session.

I keep Europeans and they were due a new pond.

Its nice and shallow with many 3D options to keep them occupied. They do get stressed with too much proximity to each other so they should enjoy the extra space.

I intend to add branches next to provide as much crawling options as possible.
The guttering is a big bio filter.

Cheers

Hey Rom,

Looking good and having seen the drained version on the TT, I think that the creation of an interesting "aquascape" for them to explore is excellent. Also loving the idea of the creation of custom made hibernation chambers under plants. I've read a lot about Spotties favouring submerged plant root balls for hibernation quarters, my reading on Euro's is limited but I think its a great idea.

Default hibernation

David Carrolls' book The year of the Turtle is a must read. It does have fantastic levels of information presentented almost subliminally. Huge information you just have to recognise it for what it really is.

You can get it from here. I am sure David wil post to you if you ask him.

carrollartgallery.com

I was lucky enough to meet David and Laurrette last year and talked with them over a couple of days. I took loads of notes and in a simple way have tried to reproduce crudely what I understood. Already having done this I can see that things could be refined.

If you want to get real insight into North american turtles (New England) get this book - he has others but start with this. The views for Spotteds read across to Emys as their ecological niche seems so similar.
