I'm looking forward to the next instalment!
Somehow I think he is probably in charge.... He seems to know just how it should all be. Jan |

I'm glad to report that Putin's bed habits have gone quiet...he has barely moved...only couple of inches since I last checked on him two days ago. Now he is sleeping his head in the 'sand' and back legs under towels....best of both worlds... Little did I know I have got myself 'a man' that is so hard to please..no wonder he was passed on for next available 'victim'... .. |

I enjoyed reading this thread, what an awesome tortoise!
I'm glad I've got one that doesn't hibernate, I'd be panicking like mad! |

Hello everybody! WELL... 'his highness' has been snoring away and he has been 'away' slightly longer than I originally planned...today I dug him out, it was time to get up! I was feeling bit nervous
I knew he was alive as I have been checking on him..but being his first hibernation under my supervision, and after reading what can happen if they get too low with their body reserves...I was holding my breath... Putin had few looooong baths today...every so often placed under heat lamp to dry off and warm up...and eventually he started drink and move about.. While he was warming up I prepared his temporary indoor housing...and made it all cosy for him...>lights on and tortoise in >> now he was starting to open his mouth....FEEED MEEE!!! (or so imagined him squeeling.. ) Earlier on the day I had been gathering some weeds from the garden that have started grow in sheltered places...put few leaves on front of him to see if he would feel like having a nibble...AND DID HE INDEED!! Like a horse(field)..straight in! Just few leaves to start with; [...and then full load...and he did tuck in ...nom nom nom... |

Congratulations on your first hibernation. It's lovely to see Putin tucking into his food.

Great photograph. He seems very happy. Hibernation seems to have been very straightforward for him. It must be lovely to have him up, although lots of weed hunting again!

Putin was very slow to start with this morning and after having another hydrating bath and loooong 'sunning' session under lamp, he must have felt properly woken up. He's been munching anything and everything, crawling all over the place and checking up if I have left him any climbing out platforms.
Oh no...I'm not fooled that easily anymore! One escape getting into hibernation was once enough...and I have now much better idea is strength and climbing capabilities. I'm really looking forward to on coming weed hunting, and while walking my dog, I've already spotted few good harvesting spots and if weather should stop weed growth..I have plenty of edible houseplants and some greenery in garden too. I might even sow some seeds into small pots for early season nibbles |

It is only a mid-day!...I wonder what she has got planned for me next...nice meal would not go a miss! Last edited by Finsky; 20-02-2016 at 01:46 PM. |
