Does sound like a Starling. Does it have longish sharp beak? Starlings have quite pointy beaks and don't get speckled until they mature.

he is dead died last night, hopefully in his sleep
i reckon it either got too cold or hungry and i wish we hadn't tried the meat too

just feel so sad for him because he died on his own and has both eyes and his beak open asif he had been asking for food and i feel like its my fault because he had been so friendly with me
last night it was raining and now its a nice and sunny day

Poor thing you did all you could to save this little bird, which was the best thing you could have done. Its more than most people would have done. xx

Sorry to hear this but sometimes these things just happen and you did all you could. We had a baby sparrow a few years ago and we had her for about 3 weeks and then all of a sudden she just died too.
