I would say no, freezing weeds is not a good idea. They go all mushy and ugly.

I have dried a lot of weeds in my airing cuboard and my torts eat them. Wouldn't freeze them you will end up with a load of soggy mush.

As Sue has said, you might be able to dry some weeds. I managed to find during winter last year - dandilion, a bit of jack by the hedge, dead nettle. You could also start planting up some winter flowers and plants.
This together with the option of pellets, dried friendly grass, supermarket stuff (moderation) - pak choi (or bok choi...in Paul's area ), butternut squash, bit of pumpkin, and the usual lettuce variety. As you can see, there are numerous options. Sarah also sells dried flowers in her shop, as well as grass pellets. xx Its a case of trying and testing things out and seeing what works best! Hope this helps . xx |

Hi, I kept mine up last winter as I had only just had them, and I remember going out around now, digging up plantain and small dandies etc from my lawn and putting them in weed trays to grow on in a sunny windowsill (dont pamper them though). It was only when the frosts Jan/Feb that there was very little about in the garden.
Mine are back in now and will be fed until I start winding them down in November and I have planted some weeds on their table and will keep some going in my unheated greenhouse during the winter months, in case one of them needs to be woken up early. Picked weeds will keep for a few days in a fridge, but never tried freezing them. Pat x |

Another good thing to grow is prickly pear cacti - you can buy pads and plant then add to diet over winter.
