Dory measures about 15.3cm in length and age is about 6 years old. Dory had another X-ray today, but there were no change in the picture.

When I first got Dory another vet tested his poop and told me he had coccedia. At the time the vet treated him with antibiotics. I told this to my vet and he is wondering if this has come back so he has sent sample of his poop off to the lab for testing.

Thanks for keeping us updated. I often wonder how torts are getting on following posts, so good to keep in touch. We all learn so much.

yes Jan I agree. I didn't know tortoises could get this, though dogs can, mine haven't but I think it can usually be stress or change etc if recent changes.

I think a few soaks in reptoboost will help as a pick me up. Tortoises can over heat or dehydrate so quickly and become lethargic. A good old pick me up won't harm in the least. CB

Is this a protazoa? I am not sure about this particular type but a lot dont live for long once they leave their host. So can only be detected if faecal testing is very quick, ie within an hour. If your vet doesnt test "in house" not sure if it will show up?

Hi burnt toast,

No the vet sent sample to a lab. Dory seemed a little better on Sunday he ate some food (I had to hand feed him though) and then he had a little stomp around. he also threw a strop when I bathed him trying to climb out his tub.

If your saying this tort has coccidia it should never be kept with any other tort. It can be deadly, very little is known on how its passed, people have lost full herds to this and people have had 1 tort amongst a herd and not affected any of the other torts. I know one guy who's tort is in it's 20's and has coccidia. It's an unknown at the moment. But can be deadly, I read somewhere that a tort that has coccidia and shows no signs of runny nose or watery eyes is carrying it in the liver or kidneys.
All you can do is carry on caring for him and hope he's just going through a down period. I'm no expert on this, just passing on what I've read others discussing.
Some theories of how it's passed is bugs like flies or other animals like lizards.
I wasn't going to say anything because I'm only mimicking what I've read, but decided it's only right.
I'd get him checked for coccidia by a 2nd vet for a 2nd opinion.

If this is a protozoa then you need a better vet who knows about tortoises:0)
As there are the appropriate antibotic/Protozoa treatments out there. And can in most cases be sorted out:0)

Hi everyone. Dory seems a bit better. He's had a few nibbles of food by himself, and has been having lots of time wondering outside. All his poop samples came back clear.
When I look at his face he looks more himself, if that makes sense? I know that probably sounds silly.

Here's a picture of my little baby from this weekend.
