Snails.
For all the people on here? What do you use for housing? Our snails are getting too big for there home so i'm going to get my boyfriend a really nice new tank for his birthday and set it up and everything but i wondered what everyone else has? I see you can use storage massive storage boxes and fill them with plants, hides etc.. I want it to be brilliant with lots to do, it doesn't necasarily have to be a pretty tank, just something thats suitable to house them in, big and that i can make into a haven for them, he will love that for his birthday

heres my retis setup, its a pennine viv, made out of moulded plastic with glass sliding doors, they are very light to carry and are easy for cleaning, cheapest iv found them are at www.surreypets.com, well worth the money .

no heat mat as yet, as its getting warmer and the viv is near a raidiator, but i will say the viv gets high humidity as the vents are so small, so i need to make a couple of holes and buy more vents, my bits i got from ebay, look in the reptiles section, also the colours iv seen are green and grey, mine is grey, never seen the brown though, hope this helps

Yeah I've heard they are bad for ventilation, which makes me sway towards a vivarium with wire mesh at the top... And cover the sides in jungle-esque decoration
Thanks for your help |

My two fulicas are in a 24 x 12 x 12 glass tank (ex-rat) that I got off Freecycle, it's great as it has a fine wire mesh top which stops them getting into the hood which I made to house the lighting. I cut several large holes along the back of the hood for ventilation, humidity is controlled by blocking or opening the vent holes as necessary.
One thing I must do though is to put fine flyscreens over the vent holes as I have a bit of a problem with Sciarids (Fungus Gnats) at the moment, I don't think they pose any danger to the snails but I'd rather not have them in there. For heat I just have the very smallest (4W) heat mat on the back, at the moment this is giving a constant tank temp of 23.5-24.5°C which seems to suit the snails, they are much more active now than when they were cooler or warmer. |
