What lighting to buy?
Hello,
I'm sorry if this is already a topic. I have a 3 year old marginated tort called Clive and I need help with choosing lighting. For the first two years I used a heat light with a separate UV tube bulb light. This worked great but I was then told that those kind of UV bulbs don't emit UV anymore after about 6 months... I then decided to get one bulb that provided UV and heat because it sounded like the cheaper option. Firstly I got one from Arcadia, this lasted almost 2 months. I then tried the Exo Terra PT2054 Glow Light/ Reflector, this lasted a month. I'm just wondering whether there's a good option which is more reliable, or is spending £25 every month or two on a new bulb something which has to be done? Thank you for your help! (: I should add, I do have an outdoor run which my tortoise is currently outside in enjoying the sun. |

This seems to be a huge subject and I have different torts to you, so will leave the keepers of marignated to help you. Thought I would respond so that your post appears in todays. (There is a delay for your first few posts)
Lovely name Clive, be great to see a photo.

Hi
I use the Arcadia ones and find them very good, you were unlucky to get a dodgy one, however they are guaranteed for a year so it is worth contacting the company, they are very helpful and will probably replace it if you still have it! |

Thank you, (:
It was a while ago I didn't realise it had a year guarantee, I definitely don't have it anymore.. I'll try the arcadia ones again anyway, hopefully I was just unlucky first time. Thanks again! |

We use the lucky reptile bright sun (metal halide). The bulbs are very reliable. I've never had one blow, but we change them every 8-12 months as a matter of cause to keep the UV strong. They have a lot more light MV bulbs so added natural look I think.
