Default Adult Red Foot size

I've been reading about the size of adult red foots. I had thought the average size was about 14 inches. Are they likely to get bigger than this and what's the chances of it? Be interested to hear from anyone with fully grown red foots!

Thanks Joanna. Is that yours fully grown? Mine will be housed principally indoors because of the climate and I'd read they could reach 16 inches! How old would they be when they reach full size?

Thanks

Hi yes some are larger, you can never positively tell the overall size from a hatchling. I think their size at hatching and the size of the parents could be a good indicator, my redfoot female has been laying eggs and as far as I know once laying they are more or less at adult size. She has stayed the same length for 12mth, also lays tiny eggs and has tiny hatchlings, I bet their adult size will be similar to hers

It all depends on where they are from, genetics and food intake as to how big a Redfoot will get or not get.
The Northern population usually average 12 to 16 inches, Cherryheads (from the south) average 10 to 14 inches and Chacoan Redfoots (from the southwestern part of the range) average 16 to 20 inches.

I'm laughing - a mode of transport indeed!! I wanted to know I can house it in the long term but wan't building moving to a larger house into the equation!

Thanks Sarah for the pic - it's brilliant and gives me some perspective. Is that just wet soil as a substrate? Is that best or soil/sand with eg reptibark / orchid bark?

Also - sorry should probably start a new thred - but do you put yours out in the summer? Temps never really high in Scotland but on the (rare) good summers day is it ok to do so as long as an enclosure is provided? What do you do Caledonia (hailing from the same cold climate!!)?

Thanks
SS
