Default New owner

Hi,

I am new to being owned by a Hermann and love it. I have done lots of research and hopefully got my setup right. She (we think) is about 6 months old and is overwintering. Finding lots of weeds locally to feed and starting a weed garden.

I believe she is a herc subspecies and looks like the images from what I can tell.

As she is small she came with the copy of the certificate marked for info. The breeder said I only need to change this if I sell or breed which I'm not planning on, but I have read that new owner details need to updated with defra. Please can someone let me know the correct process?

As you have been advised you don't have to amend the details that Defra hold it just means that the copy certificate you have wouldn't be valid if you wanted to sell your tortoise or breed from him/her. There is nothing to stop you re-registering your tortoise but before this you would need to have him/her microchipped. The seller of hatchlings doesn't necessarily have to give you a copy of the licence but can merely just let you have the certificate number. Hope this helps - Mary

Welcome to the forum. Great that you've been busy researching. 6 months is a bit early to know the sex but a photo could help identify the sub-species.

She was incubated to be female and seen as I’m outnumbered by males in my house she’s just being a girl for now.

Struggling with the photo posting. I’m trying to figure it out.
