Default Basking temps

got my new herman last week.
she does not want to bask under the lamp, temp is between 32-33c
she always sits to the side, do you think it may be the slate underneath?

what a sweetie she is ! I keep my little hermani between 26 - 29 degrees. Nothing wrong with up to 32 degrees thought the slate at that range may get a little heated - it retains heat like a brick wall in heat of summer - not to worry as it won't harm , but she may not sit on it if too hot. And they do need to cool down also so as long as she is active and moving around I wouldn't worry too much, keep posting ! CB

Lovely pictures.

They don't sit under the lamp all the time. I found sometimes they seemed to spend most of the day there and another no-where near it!

My hatchlings used to sit under the light first thing in the morning to warm up. Then hide under it for the rest of the day:0)
But the substrate has to be deep enough to do it:0)

I would move the slate away from the basking light it can get too hot, she may be sitting to the side because it's too hot for her, so lower the temp to 30/31, and see what she does, if she sits under it, then that's probably more comfortable for her, they all individuals and respond differently to temps.

I only ever used one inch thick slate which disperses the heat better than the thin roof type:0)
